i'm back this beautiful monday morning with an update about our outdoor pre-spring home project. i'm really happy we tackled phase 1 when we did - because it's snowing today! talk about perfect timing.
in case you missed it, i shared all about our plans for phase 1 right here. this morning, i am happy to report phase 1 of this project is now complete. phase 2 will come in the spring when we lay new sod in half of the play area, add mulch around the rock path and the rest of the property, and, of course, bring in that trampoline for the kids - along with a few more fun outdoor activities for them. i'm looking forward to spring now that phase 1 is complete, but for the time being we are going to enjoy the snow!
want a peek? before and after photos are always fun! we will begin in the play area of the backyard. here is the before shot with the area still full of rocks and the sandbox in the middle. in case you missed the previous post about this space, there used to be a big swing set here too.

we did our best to level this area by bringing in dirt. a lot of dirt.

you have no idea how excited we are to have those rocks gone from the play area.
rocks + 2 little boys + boy imagination = a lot of bad ideas. and some neighbor complaints, as well.
soooo, where did all of those rocks go? we relocated them to our rock path. we have a path that runs between our front driveway and back driveway. the path was in desperate need of a border to create a cleaner, defined look. the mulch and rocks were beginning to merge. yes, we've gone crazy. not only are we sorting things inside the house, but now we are sorting rocks and mulch. ha! :-) maybe you won't think we're quite so crazy after seeing this transformation...

i think this last before and after set says so much. notice how the mulch is pretty much touching the main stepping stones in this before photo...there was almost no pathway remaining here...

and in this after, we have widened that area and clearly defined the pathway. wow, i am so excited with the clean result...

isn't the after amazing? we could not be more pleased with the end result. once the mulch is in place, the path will be look even better. the border stands out quite a bit because the mulch isn't in place. once the mulch is out, the entire area will look fresh and new. can't wait! and the boys keep asking when the trampoline will arrive. once phase 2 is complete in the spring, i'll be sure to update you with the final result photos.
