our art room

yes, the kids are spoiled...for the next 6 months, at least. our rental house happens to have a couple extra spaces that i set up specifically for kid's activities - outside of the playroom i shared yesterday.

i know! i wish i was so lucky at their ages to live in this dream land.

just inside the entry of our rental home...

and off to the right, is a great little space with a huge window. the owner of the home said it could be set up as an office or a formal sitting room. but when i saw the space - i immediately thought this was the perfect room to do art projects, puzzles and games...

the sunny space makes me want to sit down and be creative.

to make the space warmer, i covered the hardwood floors with the area rug that used to be in our home office. then in the center of the room i placed the colorful kid-sized table and chairs...

this shelf, that used to be in our daughter's bathroom, is perfect for holding art supplies, games and puzzles...

as i packed up the playroom during the move, i widdled down our inventory quite a bit to this manageable amount. the art caddies are on the top shelf because they hold items that need mom or dad's help (glue, scissors, glitter).

the easel fits perfectly in the corner, too...

all 3 of the kids have enjoyed spending time in here. our 8 and 6 year old's love building and recently discovered these magformers...

while our 2 year old (almost 3!) daughter loves to create pieces of art with stickers and pens....

...all while wearing a cinderella dress...

a few years ago i created an easy and simple art string display that i think would work well in this space. those 3m adhesive picture hanging strips are great for living in a rental home - they allow you to pretty up a space without putting holes in the wall. as soon as i hang some art string in here, i'll share the update. until then, our kids will be busy creating in this space in order to fill up those future art strings.

    1. thank you! the table and chairs are from pottery barn kids :-)....

we bought it years ago (5 or more?!) and it's their basic table. we ordered 4 different colored chairs. love it and it has held up pretty well. at some point we may need to re-finish the tabletop, but i sorta like all the dings and niks in it too. :-)

  2. Samantha, I loooove your blog! Just discovered it yesterday and am loving what I've been able to read. This art center is adorable. And I love the shelves with the canopy, can I ask where you got them? I saw similar ones in abc distributing catalog and am considering purchasing for my daughter's room. I can honestly say I've been really inspried by your projects to tackle some big organizing projects in my house! Keep up the great work!

    1. thank you so much! you are so sweet! really glad to know you are enjoying the blog so far. that is really the mission here - to keep it simple and share projects i am actually doing day to day. i'm a busy mommy and don't have time for much else. so, thank you! enjoy!!!

the shelf came from land of nod. when i previously shared the shelf in another space (the previous home we lived in, which we owned and recently sold), i tried to find it on their site to link up...but it appears they aren't selling it anymore. :-( maybe the source you mentioned would be a better bet?? i do love this particular shelf because of the lighter color and the ability to close it when you don't want the contents showing.

sorry i couldn't be of more help!

      thanks again!!!
      samantha :-)

  4. Hey Samantha,

Looks so fun! Also looks like you all got really lucky with a super nice rental house. This question is a little off topic but seeing all your labels makes me think of this. What type of label maker do you have? Would you recommend it? Why do you like it? I guess I don't know enough about them to even look at the descriptions and know why a certain feature would benefit me. Hard to believe something so simple as a label maker can have me so confused!

    Thanks,

    Stacy
